About Yttrium Oxide (Y2O3)
Yttrium Oxide (Yttria) is a thermally stable and highly insoluble source of yttrium. It is commonly used in glass, optic, and ceramic applications due to its stable properties.
Oxide compounds are generally not conductive to electricity, but certain perovskite structured oxides are electronically conductive and are used in applications like the cathode of solid oxide fuel cells and oxygen generation systems.
Metal oxide compounds like Yttrium Oxide are basic anhydrides and can react with acids and strong reducing agents in redox reactions.
Yttrium Oxide has the highest thermo-dynamic affinity for oxygen, which makes it useful in ceramics for crucibles for molten reactive metals, in florescent phosphors, computer displays and automotive fuel sensors.
