About Tantalum Oxide (Ta2O5)
Tantalum Oxide is a highly insoluble and thermally stable source of Tantalum, which is suitable for glass, optic, and ceramic applications. It is a white, odorless powder that was discovered in a sample of pegmite minerals in 1802 by Anders Ekeberg, a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Oxide compounds are generally not conductive to electricity. However, certain perovskite High Purity (99.999%) Tantalum Oxide (Ta2O5) Powderstructured oxides are electronically conductive and find application in the cathode of solid oxide fuel cells and oxygen generation systems. They are compounds that contain at least one oxygen anion and one metallic cation.
Metal oxide compounds are basic anhydrides and can therefore react with acids and with strong reducing agents in redox reactions. They are typically insoluble in aqueous solutions (water) and extremely stable, making them useful in ceramic structures, ranging from simple clay bowls to advanced electronics and in lightweight structural components in aerospace and electrochemical applications such as fuel cells, in which they exhibit ionic conductivity.
