About Molybdenum Sulfide (MoS2)
Molybdenum Sulfide (MoS2) or Molybdenum Disulfide is a moderately soluble source of Molybdenum that can be used in sulfates applications. Sulfate compounds are formed by replacing one or both hydrogens of sulfuric acid with a metal. Unlike fluorides and oxides, most metal sulfate compounds are soluble in water, making them ideal for water treatment purposes.
Organometallic forms of Molybdenum Sulfide are soluble in organic solutions and sometimes in both aqueous and organic solutions. Metallic ions can also be dispersed using suspended or coated nanoparticles and deposited using sputtering targets and evaporation materials. Such applications can be found in solar energy materials and fuel cells.
Molybdenum Sulfide is readily available in most volumes, and high purity compositions improve both optical quality and usefulness as scientific standards. Additionally, nanoscale elemental powders and suspensions, as alternative high surface area forms, may be considered for certain applications.
