About Magnesium (Mn)

Magnesium is a lightweight metal that is one-third lighter than aluminum. When used as an alloying agent, it enhances the mechanical, fabrication, and welding characteristics of aluminum. High purity (99.999%) magnesium is used in the aerospace, satellite, and missile industries.

Magnesium compounds, specifically magnesium oxide, are used as refractory material in furnace linings for the production of iron and steel, nonferrous metals, glass, and cement. High purity magnesium can also be found in dietary supplements.

Elemental magnesium is available in various forms such as pellets, rods, wires, and granules for use as evaporation source material. Magnesium oxide is available in powder and dense pellet form for optical coating and thin film applications. Magnesium fluoride is another insoluble form of magnesium that is suitable for use in metallurgy, chemical and physical vapor deposition, and some optical coatings.

Magnesium is also available in soluble forms such as magnesium chloride, magnesium nitrate, and magnesium acetate, which can be manufactured as solutions at specified stoichiometries.
