About Zinc Selenide (ZnSe)
Zinc selenide (ZnSe) is an intrinsic semiconductor composed of zinc (Zn) and selenium (Se). With a band gap of about 2.70 eV at 25 °C (77 °F), it is a light-yellow solid compound that is rarely found in nature, except for the mineral called "stilleite" named after Hans Stille.
We manufacture high purity (5N, 99.999%) optical grade Zinc Selenide in various forms such as pieces, single crystals, discs, sputtering targets, and custom shapes. High purity zinc selenide is widely used in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), lasers, scintillators, and optical coatings as an IR optical semiconductor with a broad transmission wavelength range. It is available in doped and undoped forms, with dopants such as chromium, tellurium, nickel, copper, and other elements, as well as lower purities and grades.
Depending on customer requirements, we offer standard and custom dimensions of zinc selenide products. All high purity materials undergo qualitative and quantitative analysis using various technologies such as atomic spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and BET surface area analysis, to ensure that the elemental composition and structural properties of each product adhere to standards.
Ingredient Quality Control

- Through the use of equipment such as ICP and GDMS, the content of metal impurities is detected and analyzed to ensure that it meets the purity standard;
Non-metallic impurities are detected by equipment such as carbon and sulfur analyzers, nitrogen and oxygen analyzers. - Metallographic flaw detection analysis
- The target material is inspected using flaw detection equipment to ensure that there are no defects or shrinkage holes inside the product;
Through metallographic testing, the internal grain structure of the target material is analyzed to ensure that the grains are fine and dense. - Appearance and dimension inspection
- Product dimensions are measured using micrometers and precision calipers to ensure compliance with drawings;
The surface finish and cleanliness of the product are measured using a surface cleanliness meter.
