About Selenium (Se)

Selenium exhibits both photovoltaic and photoconductive actions, making it an ideal material for use in electronics. It is available in both metallic and compound forms, with purities ranging from 99% to 99.999% (ACS grade to ultra-high purity).

In its elemental or metallic form, selenium is available as pellets, rods, wires, and granules for use as an evaporation source material. Selenium oxide, which is available in powder and dense pellet form, is commonly used for optical coating and thin film applications. However, oxides are typically insoluble.

For applications where oxygen is undesirable, such as metallurgy, chemical and physical vapor deposition, and some optical coatings, selenium fluoride is available in an insoluble form. Soluble forms of selenium, such as chlorides, are also available and can be manufactured as solutions with specified stoichiometries.

Overall, selenium's unique properties make it a versatile material for a range of applications in the field of materials science.
