About Lanthanum (La)

Lanthanum-rich lanthanide compositions have been extensively used in the production of low-octane fuel for heavy crude oil through cracking reactions in FCC catalysts. In addition, it is utilized in green phosphors, such as the phosphate (La0.4Ce0.45Tb0.15)PO4. Lanthanide zirconates and lanthanum strontium manganites are widely used for their catalytic and conductivity properties, whereas lanthanum stabilized zirconia has useful electrical and mechanical properties.

Lanthanum's ability to bind with phosphates in water makes it a crucial element in various water treatment applications. It is also utilized in laser crystals, specifically those based on the yttrium-lanthanum-fluoride (YLF) composition. Moreover, Lanthanum metal is predominantly used in the production of mischmetal and steel additives, and is also significant in the production of hydrogen storage alloys for nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Lanthanum hydride, which is made inside pressure chambers, currently holds the new record for high temperature superconductivity at -23 degrees Celsius, a property that allows electrons to flow through the metal hydride with zero resistance.

Lanthanum is available in different forms, including metals and compounds, with purities ranging from 99% to 99.999% (ACS grade to ultra-high purity). Elemental or metallic forms include pellets, rod, wire, and granules, which are used as evaporation source materials. Lanthanum oxides are available in powder and dense pellet forms for optical coating and thin film applications. However, oxides tend to be insoluble. Fluorides are also insoluble and are used in metallurgy, chemical and physical vapor deposition, and some optical coatings. Lanthanum is also available in soluble forms such as chlorides, nitrates, and acetates, which can be manufactured as solutions at specified stoichiometries.

Appearance and dimension inspection
Product dimensions are measured using micrometers and precision calipers to ensure compliance with drawings;

The surface finish and cleanliness of the product are measured using a surface cleanliness meter.
