About Platinum (Pt)
Platinum is a versatile metal with a range of applications in various industries. It is commonly used in laboratory and dentistry equipment, jewelry, electrical contacts, and electrodes, as well as in catalytic converters. One of its notable properties is its high corrosion resistance, as it does not oxidize in air at any temperature.
In the medical field, organoplatinum compounds have been utilized as pharmaceutical treatments for certain cancers. Furthermore, platinum is available in different forms and purities, ranging from 99% to 99.999%, including platinum oxide (PtO2) powder with high purity (99.999%) for various purposes such as optical coating and thin film applications.
Elemental or metallic forms of platinum can be found in pellets, rods, wires, and granules for evaporation source material purposes. Platinum nanoparticles and nanopowders are also available for certain applications. Platinum fluoride, an insoluble form of platinum, is utilized in metallurgy, chemical and physical vapor deposition, and some optical coatings.
